WASHINGTON, D.C. – July 17, 2017 – Healthcare Ready announced today that Nicolette Louissaint, Ph.D., has been named executive director and board president. In this role, Dr. Louissaint will guide the strategic direction and lead the growth of the organization.
“Nicolette has a depth of experience in healthcare emergency preparedness and disaster response, which she brings to her work with Healthcare Ready. We are confident that she will help the organization continue to grow and expand our reach,” said Phyllis Arthur, Managing Director, Infectious Diseases and Diagnostics Policy at the Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO), and Healthcare Ready board member.
“I am passionate about the mission of Healthcare Ready and the work we do to help those in need during a time of crisis and build community resilience to help prepare for disaster. I am honored to be named executive director and look forward to continuing our work,” said Louissaint.
Since joining Healthcare Ready almost two years ago as Director of Programming, Dr. Louissaint has been a driving force behind many of Healthcare Ready’s initiatives including the roundtable policy discussion series, groundbreaking reports and trainings. Prior to joining Healthcare Ready, Dr. Louissaint served as a Foreign Affairs Officer and Senior Advisor to the State Ebola Coordinator at the U.S. Department of State. As the lead officer for health intellectual property and trade issues, she advised the State Department’s leadership on issues related to public health, technology transfer and biotechnology.
Dr. Louissaint holds Bachelors of Science degrees in Chemical Engineering and Biological Sciences from Carnegie Mellon University. She earned a Ph.D. in Pharmacology and Molecular Sciences, specializing in HIV Clinical Pharmacology from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She completed post-doctoral fellowships at the Johns Hopkins University and the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
