WASHINGTON, D.C. – May 11, 2016 – Healthcare Ready, a nonprofit that works to protect patient access to healthcare in the face of disaster and disease through collaboration with public health and healthcare, today announced that Dr. Bruce Altevogt and Dr. Asha M. George have joined the organization’s Board of Directors.
“I am thrilled to welcome directors with such impressive science, advocacy, and policy knowledge,” said Executive Director Emily Lord. “Bruce’s extensive experience translating research into science and preparedness policy and Asha’s pivotal work identifying and promoting biodefense policy solutions and innovations will significantly enhance our preparedness policy portfolio. Both will play a critical role in advancing our mission of bridging the public and private sectors to create a more resilient America.”
Dr. Bruce Altevogt is a Director of Science Policy within Pfizer Inc.’s Global Policy and International Public Affairs team. He works on global security issues such as anti-microbial resistance and interpandemic preparedness. Prior to joining Pfizer, Bruce spent over 11 years as a senior program officer on the Board on Health Sciences Policy at the Institute of Medicine (IOM). In his capacity at the IOM he served among other things as director of the Forum on Medical and Public Health Preparedness for Catastrophic Events, the Forum on Neuroscience and the Nervous System Disorders Forum. Bruce has a PhD in Neuroscience from Harvard University.
Dr. Asha M. George codirects the Blue Ribbon Study Panel on Biodefense, established in 2014 to assess gaps in and provide recommendations to improve U.S. biodefense. Previously, she served in the U.S. House of Representatives as subcommittee staff director and senior professional staff at the House Committee on Homeland Security. She, at Strategic Operational Solutions, additionally serves as a consultant for operational and headquarters components in DHS and other departments and agencies, helping these organizations operate more efficiently and effectively and providing senior leaders with strategy and policy advice. Asha holds a DrPH in Policy from the University of Hawaii.
