Bipartisan Commission on Biodefense
Dr. Asha M. George co-directs the Bipartisan Commission on Biodefense, which was established in 2014 to assess gaps in and provide recommendations to improve U.S. biodefense. The Panel determines where the United States is falling short of addressing biological attacks and emerging and reemerging infectious diseases. Previously, she served the U.S. House of Representatives as subcommittee staff director and senior professional staff at the House Committee on Homeland Security. She, at Strategic Operational Solutions, additionally serves as a consultant for operational and headquarters components in DHS and other departments and agencies, helping these organizations operate more efficiently and effectively and providing senior leaders with strategy and policy advice. DHS, the FBI, and HCFA have recognized her homeland security, public health, public policy, and emergency management contributions. Dr. George is also a decorated Desert Storm veteran, having served on active duty in the U.S. Army as a military intelligence officer and as a paratrooper.
Dr. George holds a DrPH degree in Public Health Policy and Security Preparedness from the University of Hawaii at Manoa; an MSPH in Parasitology and Laboratory Practice from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; and a BA in Natural Sciences from the Johns Hopkins University. She is also a graduate of the National Preparedness Leadership Initiative, run by the Harvard University Kennedy School of Government.
