2023 Tripledemic

Healthcare Ready is currently MONITORING for any impacts from the Tripledemic. We are monitoring supply chain needs and community impact with the assistance of our private and public sector partners.

Overview

    • Last fall, the surge of three respiratory viruses — RSV (respiratory syncytial virus), the flu (influenza) and COVID-19 — commonly referred to as the “tripledemic” killed more than 100,000 people in the U.S.
    • This year the tripledemic viruses are in play again and for the first time, immunizations exist to combat all three.

Media Advisory

Healthcare Ready has released a Media Advisory regarding the potential surge in respiratory illness and shortage of RSV vaccines for infants. Vulnerable populations, including children from lower-income or underserved communities may be disproportionately affected

Tripledemic 2023: Preparing today for tomorrow's respiratory illness surge.

Healthcare Ready’s Sean Brzozowski authored the blog post “Tripledemic 2023: Preparing today for tomorrow’s respiratory illness surge“; analyzing the conflux of factors which lead to Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV), and influenza reached overlapping peak infection rates, creating what is referred to as a “tripledemic.” Hospitals strained to accommodate the influx of patients as infections surged and both supplies and hospital capacity were depleted. As the weather cools, we potentially face another collision of these viruses and a repeated “tripledemic.”
