Healthcare Ready's Releases on TX Flooding
Overview
Updated: July 7, 2025
Widespread and devastating flash flooding has impacted Central and Southeast Texas with 89 people dead, including 48 adults and 27 children, following several days of intense rainfall between July 4–7. Rainfall totals exceeded 20 inches in some areas, with the Guadalupe River and surrounding watersheds quickly rising beyond flood stage, resulting in catastrophic flash floods in communities across Kerr, Comal, Travis, and Burnet counties.
The flooding developed rapidly, with water levels in some rivers rising more than 25 feet within an hour, overwhelming infrastructure and leaving little time for evacuations. Particularly hard-hit areas include Camp Mystic in Hunt, TX, where dozens of campers and staff were caught off guard by the sudden flooding. Emergency rescue operations continue across multiple counties, with search teams deployed by boat, helicopter, and drone.
Key Impacts:
- Fatalities: At least 89 confirmed deaths, with 27 children among the victims
- Missing Persons: Over 40 individuals remain unaccounted for
- Infrastructure Damage: Extensive damage to roads, bridges, utilities, and communications systems
- Public Health Risks: Potential water contamination and increased risk of waterborne illness due to floodwaters
This event has severely affected both urban and rural healthcare infrastructure, making it difficult for displaced individuals to access essential medications and services. In response, RxOpen will be activated to help track pharmacy closures and support patients and providers during this ongoing emergency.

Healthcare Ready's Role during the TX Flooding
Healthcare Ready works to monitor and evaluate the situation around the damage and provide analysis of its implications. We aim to provide information across sectors to supply information to all parties involved or impacted. Healthcare Ready is focusing efforts on highlighting challenges and supporting solutions to these challenges from the damages.
A part of monitoring during this time is through Rx Open. Rx Open provides information on the operating status of healthcare facilities in areas impacted by a disaster. When the map is active for an event, users can use the Facilities map to search for individual facility status such as pharmacies, community health centers, and dialysis centers.
