2024 Hurricane Francine
Response
Healthcare Ready is currently ENGAGED for impacts of Hurricane Francine. We are monitoring supply chain needs and community impact with the assistance of our private and public sector partners.
Overview
- On Monday, September 9, Hurricane Francine is currently in the Gulf of Mexico slowly increasing in strength. It is forecasted to be a hurricane by Wednesday night while its projected path crosses over parts of the Texas and Louisiana’s coastline.
- Impacts Expected:
- Texas: Heavy rain expected, up to 12 inches in some places by Monday night.
- Louisiana: Potential for life-threatening storm surge (up to 10 feet) and hurricane force winds along the coast, particularly from Cameron to Port Fourchon.
- It is projected to continue tracking north after it makes landfall along the Louisiana coast and move up quickly through Mississippi, Arkansas, and into Tennessee.
- Storm surge watch from Texas near Houston to Mississippi, and a hurricane watch for much of Louisiana’s coast from Cameron to Grand Isle.
- Preparations and Responses:
- Residents of Baton Rouge and Grand Isle, Louisiana, are preparing for potential impacts, including evacuations and sandbagging to protect homes.
- Baton Rouge Mayor Sharon Weston Broome urged residents to prepare disaster supply kits.
- While there is risk of life-threatening storm surge and a high-risk of flooding, it will hopefully not be severe since Francine is not expected to stall out over the states and will move relatively quickly.

Healthcare Ready's Role during Tropical Storm Francine
Healthcare Ready works to monitor and evaluate the situation around the damage and provide analysis of its implications. We aim to provide information across sectors to supply information to all parties involved or impacted. Healthcare Ready is focusing efforts on highlighting challenges and supporting solutions to these challenges from the damages.
A part of monitoring during this time is through Rx Open. Rx Open provides information on the operating status of healthcare facilities in areas impacted by a disaster. When the map is active for an event, users can use the Facilities map to search for individual facility status such as pharmacies, community health centers, and dialysis centers.
